Important Operating Information
● Each membrane element is shipped with one brine seal, one interconnector (product water adapter) with appropriate O-rings, and one product water end cap (Not always necessary for 8-inch elements with internal product water connections). These are placed in the shipping box with the element. The actual contents shall prevail.
● Elements are tested with water before shipment and preserved using a new oxygen absorber or a 1% sodium bisulfite solution. They are then vacuum-packed in an oxygen barrier bag. To prevent microbial growth during short-term storage, transportation, and system standby, elements must be immersed in a preservative solution made with purified water or RO permeate, containing 500-1000 ppm of sodium bisulfite (food grade), adjusted to pH 3-6. Under no circumstances should the membranes be allowed to dry out. Refer to the relevant section of this technical manual for specific preservation procedures.
● For the recommended design guidelines, please refer to the latest version of the Toray technical manual and system design software, or contact your local Toray product distributor or technical service center for assistance. The recommended design ranges are exceptions under severe fouling and scaling conditions. If the elements are operated outside the recommended conditions, the service life of the elements may be reduced. Toray will not be responsible for warranty claims if the operating conditions provided in this brochure are not strictly followed.
● The permeate water from the first hour of initial operation should be discarded.
● Back pressure on the product side of the membrane element must be avoided at all times.
● When the feed SDI is higher than 3 or 4, high productivity operation (each element operating at a high flux) will generally lead to frequent chemical cleaning. The permeate flow rate per element can be adjusted by regulating the system operating pressure. When the potential for fouling or scaling is low, the concentrate flow rate may be reduced appropriately. The minimum ratio of concentrate flow to permeate flow varies depending on the feed water quality; please refer to the relevant design guidelines in this technical manual for specific values.
● When the pressure drop across a vessel increases to 1.5 times the initial value, chemical cleaning is required. Chemical cleaning, sterilization, and disinfection procedures must follow the Toray technical manual.
